Help keep Middleground going!

Middleground is a free online magazine focused on publishing the stories and experiences of mixed-race writers and artists. It was born from a desire to showcase the voices of mixed people, offer a community to multiracial readers and allow the mixed-race narrative to be rewritten by members of the community itself.
We publish two issues a year, one in the Summer and one in Winter, and our magazine is always free to read online. We always pay our contributors because their work is important, valuable, and precious, and supporting our community is at the core of everything we do.
The Past 4 Years
Since we started in Summer 2019, we've:
- published 6 issues
- reached more than 7,000 readers
- showcased the voices of over 80 mixed-race writers and artists
We've also put on a free writing workshop series and grown our social media following to over 2,000 on Instagram, allowing us to always reach more people who can benefit from the stories our contributors have to tell.
This was all achieved with one fundraising campaign that raised a little over £830. That's how far your donations can go!
The Future of Middleground
This is where we need your help. Paying our contributors is one of our core values and that can't be achieved without funding.
We are aiming high this time. £1,000 might seem like a lot, but each and every pound would play a huge role for Middleground. Here's how your donations will be used:
- 5 more issues, from Winter 2023 to Winter 2025
- £140 and £160 per issue to allow us to pay our artists and writers (£10 per contributor)
- Maintaining our website and domain until Winter 2025
The Middleground team takes no cut of the total, regardless of how much is left after each issue. We are here to support the mixed-race community and, accordingly, that is where our funding goes. Any donations above our goal will simply go towards issue 12.
Thank you!
We are already so grateful to have been able to get this far on community funding only. Your support has meant the world to us. We wouldn't be asking for help if we didn't need it, but if you're unable to donate, we still think of you dearly and thank you for standing by our side all these years!
