Help for vet expenses at NWI Chinchilla Rescue!
NWI Chinchillas was founded in 2003 by a wonderful fur mama named Ashley. They are located in Northwest Indiana, hence NWI! A special chinchilla named Fuzzy was a rescue that really started the foundation for NWI Chinchillas, which today helps rescue small animals and exotics! Fuzzy had many medical issues to conquer including impaction and stasis, which chinchilla owners know can be very scary and expensive.
NWI recently was boarding a chinchilla, Chichi, who was originally from NWI chinchillas. This was not the first time, and Chichi stayed in the same cage every visit. She was typically there for a few months as her owner would travel internationally. A month into her stay during morning rounds, it was discovered she had gotten trapped between the wheel and the cage and snapped her rear leg so poorly it was completely turned backwards. She was immediately taken to the exotic vet to be examined. It was determined her leg would need to be amputated. Unfortunately, she had a very difficult time trying to wake up from surgery and started seizing. CPR had to be performed, but sadly Chichi did not recover from the procedure. This was a series of very unfortunate circumstances that has left the rescue out over $1000 dollars, as well as some very sad hearts.
Ashley puts her whole heart into this rescue. This is what she spends her time doing! Caring for these floofy chinchillas, as well as a variety of other small pets. These chinchillas in rescue live a comfortable luxurious life complete with toys, hammocks, wheels, and playtime in a playpen! She makes every effort to see if they will be social with other chins, after proper 30 day quarantine of course. NWI Chinchillas is her life and she works hard to help rehome chinchillas for others, and she helps others find resources for animals she cannot accept such as cats/dogs/ferrets.
I want to help make sure NWI chinchillas does not have to turn down any surrenders and keep the rescue operating smoothly with this unexpected vet bILL. I hope others can help me out with this request!
