Help Keep The Community Laundry Program Spinning

WHO WE ARE
We are the Community Laundry Program (CLP): A team of community members from diverse backgrounds coming together to support those living unhoused on the Lekwungen traditional territory and its surrounding areas of south Vancouver Island.
In partnership with the North Park Neighborhood Association, CLP has been operating out of the LaundroLounge Laundromat on Cook between Johnson & Yates since March 2021. Prior to CLP, free laundry and outreach services at this location were provided by the Indigenous Harm Reduction Team (IHRT) and Poverty Kills. These service providers are the creators of this valuable service, and CLP as it is today is thrilled to be building on their work. Without their hard work, dedication, and ingenuity, the service that CLP currently provides would have never existed. To learn more about the important work of IHRT, please check out their website at www.ihrt.ca. Poverty Kills has since dissolved their operations but their individual members continue to support outreach services.
This fundraising account was made to help us bridge funding between major grants so that we can continue to provide this service without interruptions. Your support is greatly appreciated and without it, the program might look very different. Together we can support our unhoused neighbors and bridge gaps as a community.
THE PROGRAM
In an inclusive, minimally-restrictive, COVID-safe space, we offer:
-free, self-serve laundry (no limit on loads) from 4pm-9pm every Tuesday
-a warm meal
-essential survival supplies
-client transport to and from the program
-outreach & peer support
-the opportunity for clients to participate in paid work during the night of service
Additionally, we are lucky to have staff from other key community supports/organizations (such as Island Health's Encampment Outreach Team aka 'Orange Backpack Team') come and utilize the opportunity to make contact with folks that are unhoused. We are also working hard to expand our service as the program evolves and are keen to add tax & legal aid as part of our weekly schedule. We are very excited for new additions to our programming!
WE NEED YOUR HELP
When we were forced to put CLP on hold, we were met with a wave of community support for the service we provide. With gaps in resources for our unhoused neighbours, Victorians expressed interest in helping us keep our doors open. Because of this, we are able to resume a barebones version of the Community Laundry Program on May 18, 2021. We know our staff, clients, and community at large are ready to get CLP spinning again (albeit a bit slower than usual). Money raised from this gofundme will help CLP provide its full range of services while we work on securing more stable grant funding.
People like you are the reason we are able to continue our work despite facing the tumultuous currents of non-profit-related work. Your support is greatly appreciated!
