Help Keep the Mercer Family Together!

I've known Alan for well over a decade now, as so many of his friends and former colleagues have from the performing world, and know how much of a dedicated father and genuine, lovely person he is. He's clearly been a great father to his daughter, Micah, and now he has his young son, Vincent, who has lived with Alan for almost the entirety of his life.

Now, Alan faces an expensive custody situation for Vincent, despite being the primary caregiver and loving force in Vincent's life. There are serious concerns for his safety if his custody is turned over to the mother--she has serious issues with drug and substance abuse, and she has not indicated that she wanted custody or care of Vincent before. The mother doesn't want to pay child support, and so is trying to get at least 50-50 joint custody of Vincent, which would put him in her care for at least half the time. Sadly, because of how Indiana courts deal with paternal rights, the state still sees the mother as having default custody, even though Alan is the one who has laughed with, taught, bathed, fed, and clothed Vincent as a single parent all this time.

Alan needs a good lawyer to help him win this really important fight for primary custody, but that is not only stressful and time-consuming, the cost of a lawyer plus potential court fees can quickly become incredibly expensive. Vincent's birth mother has her parents helping her with the cost of a lawyer, which is a resource that Alan does not have. For everyone involved, and especially Vincent, health, happiness, and well-being are all at stake.

Please don't let Alan lose his son or be forced to give him over to someone who will put him in danger, consider helping whatever amount you can. I can't think of anyone who deserves this more, and while raising a young child on your own, every little bit helps.
