Help keep The Queery open!

Hey lovely folx!

We are The Queery - the only cafe, bookshop and event space for the queer and trans community of Brighton & Hove.

Since covid, energy prices shot up and we’ve been hit with a massive bill of £7,467 and we need your help to pay it, otherwise they will cut us off and we’re going to have to close.

We'll level with you: we've already been served our disconnection notice on 25 July. So to be clear, this is a serious emergency.

We are about half way there and need to raise another £4,500 to keep literally keep the lights on.

So please help us secure our space and continue to thrive! The Queery is a unique place and if you’ve ever visited, you’ll know how important it is to keep spaces like ours open, especially for our more vulnerable members.

Your support will help us clear this debt and give us the means to plan better for our future.

THE FUTURE

For clarity, we do have a solid financial plan moving forward to prevent this happening again.

It’s a bill that we’ve been fighting for two years, since we opened. But now we’ve lost so it’s one large, sudden debt that simply needs paying. We’ll be moving suppliers as soon as we’re allowed.

We would love to raise the whole £7.5k!!

The last couple of years have been tough for so many community spaces, so thank you for even reading this!! Our LGBTQIA+ community faces all kinds of crazy challenges and abuse and we desperately need to keep our doors open, especially for our People of Colour community members, who face racism, trans-phobia and a lack of daytime spaces to feel safe and included. The Queery is a true community effort, run entirely by volunteers and, with your help, we can continue to do our work.

We pride ourselves in being a leader of the UK’s alternative queer spaces and just want to continue to grow a truly safe space for queer, trans, PoC and our allies. So every penny you can pledge is a massive help.
