Help Keisha Fight for Her Life!

Imagine, how terrifying it is to be trapped in a paralyzed body, not able to speak or breathe on your own but your mind is fully aware of everything and it all happens within one week. What’s worse is you have to endure the excruciating pain in silence. On December 18th 2022, Keisha Almorales (my sister) would never have imagined that she would be that 1 in 100,000 to develop Guillain Barre Syndrome. That the tingles she felt would lead to her fighting for her life on Christmas and change it forever.

We never thought we would be in a situation so grave that instead of offering our help here, we would be pleading to you, the reader, to help the kindest, warmest daughter, twin sister, and friend you could ever meet. Guillain Barre is a very rare autoimmune disease but with quick and proper treatment patients have a full chance at recovery. 

Funds raised will go towards: 

• Medical expenses and consultations not covered by insurance

• Treatment only partially covered by insurance such as Physiotherapy, medication, etc...

• Caretaker expenses: 24/7 bedside medical care until mobile. 

• Counseling for Keisha as severe depression is commonly associated with Guillain Barre Syndrome.

• Living expenses. Keisha will be out of work for a projected year IF recovery runs smoothly with no

unforeseeable relapses. 

The long story: Keisha Almorales, a Trinidadian native, has been diagnosed with a rare and crippling autoimmune disease, Guillian Barre Syndrome. In a matter of 72 hours, although completely cognitive, her body is paralyzed and the worse happened, her heart stopped. But Keisha is a fighter, and by some miracle and with the help of doctors, she was resuscitated and came back. Keisha has been evacuated from the ICU in the British Virgin Islands, flown out and admitted into the ICU in St. Clair’s Hospital of Trinidad and Tobago where she is currently stabilized. Family and Friends quickly gathered the funds they had for her air ambulance evacuation, and admission, as the hospital made it clear, she could only be admitted after a down payment of USD 40.000.00. With the help of her insurance, her co-payment came to a staggering sum of $27,750. The GOOD NEWS is that persons who suffer from Guillain-Barre Syndrome, even in the most severe cases, have a high chance of recovering and walking again. However, it is a disease that works incredibly fast but recovery is extremely slow and her doctors are estimating she will have to be kept in the ICU for the next month and that the rest of the treatment/recovery process will take up to 6-12 months. The hospital continues to make it clear that treatment can only continue when co-payments are made first and as you can see we are only at the beginning of an intensively long and expensive journey. 

Keisha is fighting to be here and we are asking you to help her fight for her life too!

Without financial support, we cannot guarantee Keisha these lifesaving treatments she so desperately needs and deserves. We are estimating that Medical bills will be averaged at about $8000-$12,000 a month for the next 12 months, the next co-payment having to be accumulated by January 9th.

To the world, she may just be one person, but to us, Keisha is our world and we want to do everything we can to save her.
