Help Keller Find His Voice

“Imagine knowing exactly what you want to say, you can think it, you know the words but somewhere along the path from your brain to your mouth muscles, something gets lost and your mouth just won’t move the way your brain needs it to.”

Now imagine that you are six years old and this has been your life since you were born.

This is the reality for Dion and Marci Stanley’s son, Keller.

Keller has apraxia. “Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that first becomes apparent as a young child is learning speech. For reasons not yet fully understood, children with apraxia of speech have great difficulty planning and producing the precise, highly refined and specific series of movements of the tongue, lips, jaw and palate that are necessary for intelligible speech.” (https://www.apraxia-kids.org/apraxia_kids_library/what-is-childhood-apraxia-of-speech/)

Because of the severity of his apraxia and because it is different than a regular speech delay, the Stanley’s have to travel to see an Apraxia Specialist as often as possible. They are fortunate to have found an amazing specialist in Colorado who has built a solid foundation of trust and care. Keller thrives when with her. In between in person visits, Keller also receives weekly virtual sessions that the Stanley’s must pay out of pocket for.

The Stanley’s have had many friends and family express a desire to help get them to Colorado more often to continue helping Keller find his voice.

This gofundme is a way for their beloved community to have a way to help this incredibly deserving boy.

Their goal is for Keller and a parent to travel to Colorado on a monthly basis for intensive sessions with his specialist.
