Good Evening Everyone,
I'm starting this page in hopes we can all come together and help my family through this rough time. My name is Megan, Kelly's stepdaughter.
Kelly has been battling squamous cell carcinoma since 2015. In January 2015 she was diagnosed with stage 1 carcinoma. In March 2015 she went in for surgery to remove the cancer. When they began the surgery, they quickly realized the cancer had advanced quickly to stage 3 and the surgery was more intense. They removed part of her jaw, some of her bottom teeth, and had to reconstruct her tongue. They did so by removing some of her leg and arm to do so. The recovery from this surgery has been a very long process. She endured 7 weeks of radition and chemotherapy. After all that she was in remission.
Every day since that surgery has been life changing for her. The swelling in tongue has never went away, which has made it nearly impossible for her to eat solid food. She has lead as much of a normal life since.
October 2016, she began having some ear and jaw pain. Her therapist that she has been working with thought is may be lymph pain. Seen her doctor who said this could be an infection. The pain continued, in January she seen her surgeon who quickly did a biopsy and MRI. These results came back positive. Surgery at this time is not a safe option, nor do they think they can get it all with doing any surgery. She is to start chemo and radation next week.
She doesnt have many options this time around, we are looking into getting a second oponion in Maryland at the Cancer Institute.
All of this is a huge finacial burden which some of you can imagine. My brother who is in the picture above lives at home and is trying to help where he can. I am hoping we can raise some money to help with just daily needs, plus extra to get her the best care we can get her. She already has to travel a few hours for treatment which others help with. All the money raised will be used for her treatment and other needs that may come up in this time.
Kelly volunteers in the Surf City Community, she is a member of the The Real Housewives of Topsail Island. They help the community greatly.
