Help Kelly rescue Lucky the cat

Hey, I’m Kelly and if you don’t know me, I am a massive animal lover. I went on holiday to Tenerife 2 months ago and I met a little cat that very clearly let me know that they needed my help. There were 6 cats around the poolside and they all had their own areas, but this little black cat, that I have named Lucky (and hopefully her future will mean that name is apt), was very thin, had something wrong with her tummy (some fluid was coming out of a sore) and she was terrified of the other cats. She didn’t seem to have an area, she just tried to avoid the other cats but did want to see any humans and when doing so, she showed off her incredibly kind nature. I met her on my last afternoon/evening but once she had shown me that she needed my help, I couldn’t ignore that. Her eye contact was unbelievable, she kept crying every time I tried to take her off my lap, and at one point she jumped onto my shoulder and cuddled into my neck for ages. I spent my last evening chatting to hotel staff, making phone calls and before leaving at 7am the next morning, I managed to get in contact with a lady who work at the hotel previously, she has two rescue dogs and is a very kind person. She once helped a Dutch couple rescue a cat from Tenerife. She agreed to collect Lucky, after the hotel agreed that she could take her and that the cat needed medical treatment at the vets. She then took Lucky to the vets and helped arrange a foster placement where Lucky has been staying since. Lucky has had 4 trips to the vets, surgery, antibiotics and lots of other medication. Vicktoria, the lady helping me in Tenerife, did all this in good faith until I could pay the vet bills and transfer some extra money to help with cat litter, food etc for the lovely lady who has been fostering Lucky. It turned out that Lucky was microchipped, the vet said because she was so far from home, the most likely thing was that she was a loved family pet but when she got ill, they drove over an hour away from their home and dumped her … imagine being ill and then being dumped by those who are supposed to love you and protect you when you need them the most :-(
We can’t find Lucky a new home in Tenerife, so I am arranging for her to be brought to England. I have two rescue dogs, and I hope that with caution and time, that Lucky might be able to live with us and 3 of us, will become 4. If however, Lucky isn’t safe because the dogs won’t accept her, I already have 2 friends who would be willing to adopt her! So either way, we will make sure that she ends up with a happy home and gets the love and safety that she always deserved.
Flying Lucky would have cost between £1,400-£1,800 and it is a complicated process. Bringing her via a company that use ferry and land travel is cheaper. Although they would usually charge £1,200, they have dropped that to £800 because it is a rescue mission. If there was any money over the target amount, it would be used towards more of Lucky’s vet bills and associated costs.
Let’s give this gorgeous little girl another chance at happiness ❤️
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for loving animals and for showing them kindness.
