Three years ago, while a request to change custody hours was pending, Kelly's then-3-year-old daughter disclosed abuse to her pediatrician.
If a child discloses abuse during a custody proceeding, 70-80% of the time custody goes primarily to the abuser. This holds true across the country.
In a study published this year, Professor Joan Meier of George Washington University says "if you disclose child abuse by the father during a custody hearing, you're toast."
Since that initial disclosure, all three children have disclosed abuse to doctors, therapists, child protective services representatives, teachers, family friends, counselors, and religious professionals. Over 100 reports. After three years and a 10-day custody hearing, in early August the court gave full physical and legal custody to the father and supervised visitation to Kelly. There is no finding that Kelly did anything wrong -- except believe her children and try to get someone to help save them.
This decision means that Kelly has to pay someone to be present with her and the kids every hour she's with her children. The court says she can see them about 50 hours a month, which will cost about $3,000 per month.
Kelly is appealing this decision. Can you contribute towards the cost of custody supervision while the appeal is pending?
