Help Kelly's Family With Her Final Expenses
Donation protected
On Christmas night, we tragically and unexpectedly lost Kelly Jay Casey, a beautiful, loving young woman who also happened to be my daughter's best friend since they were toddlers. I was her second mom. Her mom Karen, an Army veteran (as was Kelly's dad) was my daughter's second mom. Our two girls grew up together as sisters. We took Kelly on vacation with us every year, for many, many years. She was never any trouble and we enjoyed being with her. She's a huge part of our family memories.

As a young adult, Kelly had been struggling with addiction for a very long time. For the past few years, she had pulled her life together, gotten clean, and had a job she loved in a place she loved to be (Asheville.) She regularly attended NA meetings to keep her sobriety.

Kelly loved her "mim" with all of her heart, and Karen loved her "baby girl" Kelly even more. On Christmas day, Kelly was at her mother's house with one of her brothers, and decided she needed to go to a meeting.
Later that night, she was found dead of an overdose, from drugs provided to her by a "poacher" at that meeting. The anger we have toward this person is overwhelming, understandable, and yet Kelly would not have wanted us to hate him. That's just how she was.
I had to call my daughter the day after Christmas and tell her that her best childhood friend was dead.

Kelly's family requires help with her final expenses. Specifically, they need:
-Help with cremation expenses (their church is providing some, but not all.)
-Funds to purchase an urn
-Funds to purchase cremation necklaces for each family member, so they can have Kelly with them every day.
-Funds to help cover Kelly's portion of the lease she had on the home she shared with her brother and his partner and their daughter, so that they do not have to move immediately.
-Any other unexpected expenses related to the cremation and/or medical examination, and anything else we have not anticipated.
Any funds collected over and above actual expenses will be donated by Karen to her church's benevolence fund (Chapel Hill Bible Church) as Kelly would have wanted.
