Help Ken with moving costs

Hi. My name is Kenneth Shepard, you might know me from Kotaku, Fanbyte, Normandy FM, or other places in the games media space.

Last year, I got a new job that required me to move from Georgia to New York without relocation assistance. The entire thing came together incredibly quickly, while I was at the very beginning of recovering from a life-altering jaw surgery and dealing with medical costs on top of moving costs. People were generous enough to help me out by donating to a previous GoFundMe to get collections off my back.

But the truth is, moving my entire life across the country with no financial help was a blow I've never really recovered from, even with incredible people pitching in to help when big emergencies came up. When I moved to NYC, I had to make a lot of quick decisions to secure my job and had few options. On top of spending thousands of dollars to move me, my senior dog, and the rest of my life to one of the most expensive cities in the country, I had to quickly scramble for one of the first apartments that accommodated my dog's needs. The amount I've had to pay for a studio apartment for a year has been egregious, and my dog's health declined rapidly shortly after we arrived in the city until she passed in February. So I've been stuck in an expensive lease that I'm finally getting out of next month.

All that being said, the move and the too-expensive apartment have drained all my savings, and I'm trying to move into a cheaper place with a better location in the coming months. Asking for help doesn't come naturally to me, especially after people have given me so much over the past year when I've had to fundraise for my and my dog's medical expenses, but while my savings from living in Georgia helped me get here, the past year has been hit after hit to what money I have, and it's made every subsequent month more precarious than the last.

I'm looking to raise money to help me with both moving costs to a cheaper space in Brooklyn, and securing funds for the application and deposit fees. The current goal won't cover all these things, but they will at least help alleviate those and help me have more stable ground when I move into a cheaper place.

Thank you all for all your help over this past year. Moving to a big city was always my dream, and I knew it would be a financial strain, but I also recognize the circumstances of my getting here weren't ideal, and it's been a really difficult snowballing of financial hardship trying to get my feet back under me after I had to foot the bill to move all by myself. Anything y'all can contribute would help me get a better foundation instead of parachuting in with a swollen jaw.
