Help Kendra, Domestic Violence Survivor

Hello friends, neighbours, & good samaritans.

 

Many of you who live in Old Ottawa South will likely recognize Kendra and her beagle pup, Bruno, from around the community, and may have even received some wet doggy kisses if you've ever passed by them on a walk.

 

I am starting this Gofundme for Kendra, who has fallen upon hard times and needs some assistance making ends meet in the next few months.

 

Kendra is an incredibly strong young woman who has recently managed to escape a domestic violence situation. Her ex-partner has been laid with assault charges and left Ottawa, but Kendra is now recovering from brain trauma sustained during the relationship and is unable to work. With no other options, she has taken on the full burden of paying her apartment's rent.

 

Kendra is also diagnosed with PTSD and has no contact with her immediate family.

 

Any and all funding that is raised will help Kendra pay for:

 

Kendra has been approved for Ontario Works, which helps cover the cost of her medications and provides $733/month for food AND rent. Unfortunately, this is hardly a liveable amount for anyone.

 

She has applied for ODSP but the approval process can take up to six months.

 

Kendra is an active member of the various communities she belongs to and has made it her life's work to support charitable causes. She has worked with the homeless and the mentally ill, fundraised for Cystic Fibrosis Canada (Ottawa Chapter), and volunteered in several women's shelters.

 

Kendra is a true humanitarian, and I only hope that even a small portion of the good she has done can find its way back to her through this Gofundme.
