Help Kenny Fight Stage 4 Kidney Cancer
Donation protected
Hello Everyone my name is Rochelle Kenny’s fiancé and best friend.
On April 20, 2022 Kenneth (Kenny, KD) Douglas came downstairs saying that his chest was hurting and he couldn’t breathe well. I immediately rushed him to the hospital and the nurses took him straight to triage. The doctors took blood and did a CT Scan an X-Ray and several vials of blood to make sure he didn’t have a heart attack. Later that evening the doctors diagnosed him with Pneumonia and placed a ventilator and heart monitor on his chest and the doctors decided to admit him. The next morning an infectious disease doctor took over from there because she saw some unusual strains in his blood that she couldn’t pinpoint. Doctors worked hard to find out what was wrong and after viewing the CT Scans they found a mass on his Kidney and said not to worry it doesn’t mean that it’s cancerous. Kenny stayed at the hospital for 10 days doing CT Scans and MRIs and giving more blood.
Once they released him he came home but was still having pain and drenched with sweat all hours of the night. By May 11, 2022 Kenny and I rushed back to the hospital where they then diagnosed him with Stage 4 Kidney cancer. This news left us both in a devastated state and are heart fell to the floor. Kenny stayed positive and doctors gave us hope that once the left kidney was removed he would be cancer free.
The surgery was performed right away but the next morning after waking up he couldn’t eat, he was in pain and kept vomiting. He went to have more testing and the doctors noticed he had a bowel obstruction and had to undergo surgery 2 days after his Kidney was removed. We were scared but kept faith that this surgery will heal and we can move on with life as we had. After the surgery he was unable to eat and had to get a tube down his throat to finish cleaning out his system. When he was ready to eat doctors said he had to wait so they could keep an eye out and make sure the surgery didn’t reverse itself. He was only able to chew on ice cubes. He stayed in the hospital for over a month and just in that month he lost 50 pounds. This was heartbreaking to see and know that my fiancé was in so much pain and agony.
Once released his symptoms still weren’t back to normal. He continued to vomit and became extremely exhausted at home. The doctors later called us in for an office visit and said that they noticed some spots on his lungs and wanted to do a biopsy to root out cancer but the test results came back positive for lung cancer. After removing the kidney we thought it was finally over but the biopsy showed cancer in the lung and it also spread to his stomach area. Kenny started immunotherapy right away but after several attempts the therapy wasn’t working and they had to find another treatment to kill the cancer cells before it attacked more of his organs.
The doctors delayed his treatment and gave up on him. I was angry but I knew I had to find another Oncologist that would fight for Kenny’s life. Once we found a doctor that would take on his case. Kenny complained of feeling dizzy and confused so the Oncologist performed a full body CT Scan/MRI and found 9 legions in his brain they were cancerous. Kenny went through radiation for weeks and radiation has shrunk the legions but he is still being monitored.
We were blessed to have found this new doctor at the cancer treatment center. There is a team working closely to find options on how to treat his cancer. Even though the cancer had spread; there are still other new treatments that have known to worked well on many of his patients. With all the stress on his body Kenny became very weak barely could walk let alone get out of bed. I left my management position to make sure I could care for him full-time.
Kenny is the love of my life and we are each others rocks and there is nothing I wouldn’t do to make sure he is given the best care and for him to know and witness he is not alone on this difficult journey. Before this cancer scare he was a manager of retail, a DJ starting in his teen years and has continued his love for all music genres. He brought the community together with his beats and personality. And if you don’t know him from his DJ accolades he was until recently the neighborhood barber. He cut hair, shaved heads and had a lot of knowledge and laughs entertaining with the fellas. He has so many people that love him his daughter, his siblings and I are looking forward to his recovery. He has always maintained positive long lasting friendships with his friends and is well respected in his community and when engaging in new endeavors.
Today he was rushed back to emergency and they found another small bowel obstruction and our trying to reverse the obstruction. This has been the longest 7 months of our lives. He has suffered far too long but there are still new treatment options that he can start but our funds are running very thin. The insurance won’t cover these expenses. He needs special equipment so he is able to be more mobile in and out of the home. Food to place on the table so he has nourishment. There are a lot of transportation expenses going to and from appointments 3-4 times a week. We are now in search home care that can provide him all his needs, medical equipment, personal care supplies , nursing assistants to keep his medication on schedule. All that I have mentioned needs immediate help.
As much as I feel I could take care of everything alone. This realization has led me to know that it’s ok to need help, it’s ok to ask for help and this has led me to create this gofundme page so that maybe someone out there could find it in there heart to help Kenny beat this cancer to the curb.
If you can find it in your heart to help whether it is a donation or with prayers we are welcoming all love to come and heal Kenny.
I remember saying cancer is a word not a sentence. There is a CAN in cancer and Kenny CAN win this battle to live a long and healthy life we had just 7 months ago.
We love each and everyone of you and we thank you for taking your time to read Kenny’s story. He is loved. The family would be so grateful for your help on whatever support you may provide.
