It wasn't long after we came home from a dream vacation in Montana that we noticed Kev's lips started looking pale. Besides having pale lips, and slight fever of 100.4, he was completely fine and doing normal things like going out and working. After this persisted a week, we asked for lab work from his primary care doctor because we knew something was up, and next thing you know we got a phone call on Thanksgiving to rush to the ER because his hemoglobin was outrageously low (4 to be exact, and if your not a healthcare professional that is LOW lol). His immune system levels were dangerously low, his blood levels were low, and his results showed the cells in his body were destroying each other.
After tossing around ideas of infection, cancer, etc., and getting multiple blood product transfusions and antibiotics in the hospital, a bone marrow biopsy showed us that he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia. AML is a type of cancer in the blood and bone marrow, and can be treated/cured with chemotherapy and for most people, a bone marrow transplant.
Before starting chemo, Kev was getting blood/platelet transfusions and labs multiple times a week, along with multiple antibiotics to protect him from infection. Now, after his initial phase of his treatment, he has gone into remission after his short 3 week stay in the hospital (WOOOOOOOO!!!) Next step is getting ready for the bone marrow transplant which involves more intense chemotherapy and a match from a donor who will donate their healthy bone marrow to him. The recovery process will be tough, but this kid is kicking cancers butt so far and we plan to keep it that way!
Any amount donated would be greatly, greatly appreciated and will all go towards Kev's medical expenses, medications, and other bills when he won't be able to work anymore (he has been working full time during all this, idk how he does it lol). We are soooo thankful for all of your support and prayers. Also, if your not already a member of the bone marrow registry, I encourage you to join here:
