Help Kevin's Recovery after Kidney Donation

I'm Zachary Kiernan and I am reaching out with a heartfelt request for assistance. My dad, Kevin Kiernan, Villanova University Class of 1988, took a courageous step by donating a kidney to a relative of a fellow Villanova alumni in need on January 9, 2023. You might remember my dad, he was on Shark Tank - season 3 episode 5 - The Last Lid. His act of selflessness led our family on an unexpected journey, one filled with challenges and setbacks.

Kevin's post-donation journey has been marked by unforeseen health issues. He's undergone multiple surgeries to address complications, including hernia, hematoma, and stomach problems resulting from a medical mesh implant. Coping with these issues, along with a barrage of persistent infections, has left him physically drained and unable to work. Six procedures later, he's still on the path to recovery. It's incredible.

Adding to the challenges, Kevin currently lacks medical insurance, and the NYU Langone Transplant Center, which was initially covering his medical expenses, ceased doing so in April 2023. This sudden change, along with his doctor's unexpected departure from the transplant team, has placed a significant financial burden on him.
