Kia Clark is a 32-year-old female that was recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Her Cancer treatments will consist of 16 weeks of Chemotherapy, followed by removal of the cancerous Tumor by surgery as well as a double Mastectomy. After recovery for 6 weeks, she will then begin two months of Radiation, then Reconstructive breast surgery after a short healing period from the double Mastectomy.
Kia needs urgent assistance due to out-of-pocket medical and living expenses. Because of the side effects of her Chemo treatments and the toll it takes on one’s body, her livelihood is in jeopardy. She is not paid for time off work and this fund will help support her in this long journey ahead. She’ll be fighting this disease for all of year 2020 and will be out of work. Kia does have the support of family and friends, whom all contribute as much as they can, but we can’t do it on our own. Kia tried saving money as much as possible to prepare for what was coming ahead, but the funds are depleting fast.
Kia felt a hardening in her left breast beginning late 2017. She didn’t think it was anything to be concerned about at that time. Until she later one day realizes that same feeling was under her armpit as well. She figured it was the deodorant but changing deodorant brands did not make the feeling alter. Since Kia had no health insurance, she was hesitant upon making a doctor’s appt. She felt she would be denied care because she did not have the ability to pay. She waited and hoped the feeling would just go away. Unfortunately, it never did. The Tumor grew bigger and the lumps became lumpier. On Thanksgiving Day in 2018, Kia informed her family of her concern with her left breast. Some of the female’s present felt on and around her breasts and noticed it being an abnormal feeling. They advised her to make an appt to see a doctor ASAP.
June of 2019 the feeling in Kia’ s breast was now hard and felt very sore to touch. She decided to go to an emergency room hoping to get some incite on what was going on with her body. The emergency room doctor advises it’s probably a Cyst and referred Kia to Emory Hospital to see Dr. Robertson, who is a breast cancer specialist. Dr. Robertson examined Kia via sonogram and did not like what she was seeing. She immediately ordered a Biopsy and Mammogram to be administered. September 2019 Kia found out the lumps in her breast was in fact Cancer and had spread to her Lymph nodes under her arm pit. Dr. Robertson made it known the Cancer had been growing in her breast for a least 5 years. Test were done to be sure the Cancer had not spread anywhere else in her body. Thankfully it hadn’t. Kia was also made aware that she may never be able to bear children. This has always been a dream of hers to one day be a mom. That news was very devastating for her. The medicine majority breast cancer patients are prescribed after surgery restricts a woman of getting pregnant. Oocyte Cryopreservation is out of the question as it is very costly, so Kia is believing there will still be hope for her to birth her own child after Cancer.
