Help Kiana get gender affirming surgery

May and I are raising money for Kiana's gender affirming facial feminisation surgery (FFS).

Kiana is a bike messenger (and the winner of 2023’s fixed gear world championship in Berlin, by the way!). She is also funny, joyful and an honest friend. She helped initiate transfem dinner events in Zurich and always has an open ear for her community. Now it's time to give back!

Kiana gets a lot of dysphoria from her facial structure. This affects her in her social life every day and has become more and more of a mental burden. She has been on hormone replacement therapy since she was a teenager and has benefitted from it greatly. However, hormones have not been able to change her facial structure to a point where she is at ease with herself or safe from transphobic harassment in the street.

FFS will allow her to go about her life with less worries and a lower risk of being hurt. Kiana needs this surgery to be able to live her life freely and engage socially. She deserves to build her own life like everyone else.

For the past year and a half we have been trying to get her health insurance to pay for the surgery, to no avail. They refused her application twice with no further explanation and told her she would have to pay all of the costs out of her pocket. She was quoted 2’500.- just for a first consultation, followed by a quote for a 17’000.- down payment, with final costs likely much higher.

She is instead choosing to have the surgery done by FacialTeam, a well known specialist clinic in Spain, who have given her a fixed quote and a surgery date for this winter. Our total fundraising goal is 22'000 Euros to cover the surgery costs. She has saved 5'000 of her own money, which will go towards accommodation, travel, and missed shifts at work.

We want to raise at least 17'000 Euros via Gofundme by the end of October. Give what you can – the sooner we can get a significant portion down, the less stress for her.
