Help Kick the Brain Tumour out of Jeana's Life

Donation protected

Our Sister, Daughter, Mother, Wife, Auntie, Fairy Godmother, Friend and Wonderful Teacher, Jeana Watt was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiform brain tumour in June 2021 and needs urgent lifesaving treatment that is only available in Cologne, German.

Using the best options that we have on the NHS – surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy – Jeana has only a best chance of survival rate of 18 months. We want to try and increase this greatly to give her a better chance at progression free survival over a longer period of time. We believe the immunotherapy treatment in Cologne will increase her chances of doing this.

Jeana is mum to three beautiful and amazing children who are now young adults – big sister Danni & twins Ryan and Liam. The kids and Jeana’s loving partner, Stephen want Jeana to be there for as many milestones as possible throughout their adult lives.

Jeana is a fantastic mother, THE best auntie and godmother lol, sister and high school teacher, who has a fun loving & nurturing infectious personality. She always looks on the sunny side and it is because of this loving & thoughtful persona that Jeana is regarded as the glue that holds our family & extended families together.

All of her life Jeana has been looking out for and caring for others not only in her personal life but also in her professional role as a High School Maths Teacher and local swimming coach. Jeana has a heart of pure gold and would give her all to anyone in need.

However, it is now Jeana (my big sister) who is in real need and we feel that it is our turn to look after her and give her the life she deserves, and can have if we can raise enough funds to pay for this pioneering and innovative treatment.

For someone whom has been active, fit and healthy her entire life, being diagnosed with GBM has come as a great shock; but that doesn’t mean that she isn’t taking this in her stride and as she continues to work and turn up for radiotherapy every day, we have come to realise what a truly amazing person she is in the face of adversity.

The 23rd June 2021 was the day her partner, my brother in law Stephen came home early from work & found Jeana collapsed on the floor as she started to have a seizure. This was one of the most frightening and anxious days of our families lives. She was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital and was looked after brilliantly by the nurses and doctors there, but never for a moment did it cross their, or our, minds that the source of her seizure would be a grade 4 glioblastoma; typically known as brain cancer.

Jeana had a very successful & lengthy surgery at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow on 2nd July, carried out by Dr Michael Canty & his excellent surgical team. Dr Canty had confirmed that he removed almost 100% of the tumour along with a small amount of the outliers that could be seen.

Treatment to date:

On the 2nd August 2021 Jeana started Radiotherapy & TMZ chemotherapy, on the 3rd August, at the Beatson Clinic, Glasgow - however TMZ was taken out of her treatment plan by her Oncologist as it was deemed to be causing her greater harm than good, and was disrupting her planned radiotherapy.

On the 6th August 2021 after having another CT & MRI scan it was confirmed that the tumour had re-grown in the surgical cavity; this was something that our family were not prepared for and it hit us like a tidal wave. It had only been 5 weeks since the surgeons had carried out their amazing job, and now Jeana’s unwanted tenant has returned. Jeana now has to attend her remaining 5 weeks of radiotherapy and continue with the chemotherapy in order to try and reduce the tumour/beat it back, as much as she can. Her Oncology team confirmed that if she does, that the tumour may likely reduce, but that they won’t ever get it to go away.

9th August 2021 Jeana restarted her Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy tablets– to date this seems to be going well, and is not causing too much disruption to her personality or her spirit. Its heart-lifting to see someone so sick take all of this on and remain so absolute about trying to kick this tumour out of the field. Her grit and determination in the face of real adversity is what keeps her loving family positive and thankful that she is currently still alive.

11th August 2021 Jeana is discharged from hospital.

As a family we have been liaising with Dr. Stefan Van Gool from the IOZK clinic in Cologne where they are specialists in Immuno-Oncological Therapy. The consultants there have recommended firstly that Jeana is a good candidate for Multimodal Immunotherapy after her radiotherapy as a further adjuvant treatment; and that this type of treatment helps the body itself learn to control the tumour and uses and strengthens her own immune system in the fight against cancer. It essentially works by sustainably activating Jeana’s immune system to target new cancer cell growth.

This Lifesaving Treatment is expensive and we need to currently raise £100, 000.00 (GBP) for the first two parts of Jeana’s treatment. We desperately need your help to do this. We want our incredible and joyous Jeana to remain with us as long as possible. This is how we do it:

Please Donate if you can: Every single pound gets Jeana a little bit closer to getting her life-saving treatment. Any money that remains after her treatment will be donated to either the Brain Cancer Trust or another sick person who needs similar help

Please Share Jeana’s story: Please help raise awareness of our campaign by sharing Jeana’s story with your friends online via Facebook/Instagram/Networking/within your Community

Please Do a fun fundraiser in Jeana’s name: Please consider Jeana for your next fundraising efforts! Jeana is the Life and Soul of a Party and wants everyone to have Fun whilst raising a lot of money.

From all of our family and on behalf of beautiful and caring Jeana, we are eternally grateful for any donations or awareness you can raise for this terrible disease that steals our loved ones, by firstly thanking you from the bottom of our hearts for reading Jeana’s story and secondly for making donations & helping raise awareness.

We also ask you to keep Jeana in your prayers each day as she has a long road ahead of her, but through your contributions and support she will have the best chance to fight this.

Many thanks
