UPDATE: Kim is having reverse shoulder replacement surgery after falling over rubble in the driveway. Here's what Steve posted on 10/12/24:
BAD news,
When it rains it pours!!
Last night Kim tripped on the walkway of house.
SHE FELL HARD!
Creston Volunteer Fire Dept First responders are GREAT!!
Then an ambulance ride to the hospital, MUCH PAIN!
Running around today with doctors, ct scan and hospital.
Needs total reverse shoulder surgery, will be on Monday!
YES, THERE ARE BLESSINGS!
1. We had a bridge for access now. Otherwise ford the river.
2. We had a driveway for ambulance now. Otherwise, over 1000' of mud.
3. We had power now.
4. Yesterday We setup Starlink so I was able to call 911. Otherwise, no way to communicate with 911
Without these 4 it would of been TERRIBLE!
THANKS for the prayers
Our names are Bob and Lynn, and we are trying to raise funds for our dear friends, Kim and Steve Garn. Kim and Steve have faced many hardships over the past five years - serious health issues, the loss of family, and financial challenges. Through all of it, they have supported others and been at the heart of their small community. Kim retired from supporting students at Appalachian State University, and Steve continued to help others pursue their dreams of building their own motorcycle - careers that weren't about getting rich but supporting their family and helping others achieve. When Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina, their sweet homestead and key parts of their business were devastated. The small river that had been such a source of beauty and enjoyment turned and raged through their property, undermining their home. Storm winds blew off their shop roof, allowing rain to ruin equipment and supplies. Always concerned first with others, they turned help away to ensure the safety of their family and friends who would have to traverse dangerous roads. When we could finally get to their property, we couldn't believe the damage; we knew we had to do something to help. We hope that others will feel the same and donate what they can to support this couple as they struggle to regain a sense of place lost to the storm.
