Hello My name is Kimberly and my partner is Tristian. We are a transgender (I am a trans woman and my partner is trans masculine) couple struggling to make it by in the US. With recent changes in policy and the upcoming election, it's been made clear that people like us are no longer welcome here in the US. We've decided, because of this, to make proactive steps to leaving the country and seek a better life.
In the course of doing this I sought out a job over the last year that would allow me to the freedom to save and prepare to leave the country, but toward the end of last year my job had no choice but to lay me off as they were closing that arm of the company. Unfortunately for me, it seems that has been the general sentiment of the profession in my region, as many months later I'm still unemployed. Thankfully my partner, Tristian, has been able to maintain steady work but with rent increases and overall inflation, even working 60 hours a week has had us barely scraping by.
I know that many people are struggling to just make it through, my family is all too familiar with that as well unfortunately and isn't able to assist us in the way that we need to escape the country and Tristian's family has been reluctant to accept us or even defend us in our transition to other family members.
Our goal with this fundraiser is to help us gather the funds to cover the expenses for packing our things, shipping them, and move us and our dogs into an apartment in Austria, where there is promise of work as a machinist for me and healthcare for my partner, and a path to citizenship. Most importantly, safety from the hate that is pervasive in the US.
