Help Kirk and Roy Rebuild Their Animal Rescue Ranch

Donation protected

We are Kirk Clark and Roy Rede from Havilah, California. We recently bought our dream 30-acre mountain ranch along with a vintage country farmhouse. Located in the historic town of Havilah, the house, outbuildings, animal pens, office building, and many of our animals just perished this weekend in the Borel fire.

We bought the property to rescue and breed high-quality dogs, as well as rare peacocks, specialty ducks, geese, swans, and chickens. With the guidance of county animal services, we built some beautiful kennels and animal enclosures. Our business was just starting and the future was amazingly bright!

The farmhouse was built by hand by a local family in the 1950s and their original historic gold rush era cabin was in the front yard. We knew this family and were proud to be stewards of all their history.

We were in the process of getting bids on renovations and repairs to the house as well as bids on fire insurance so the house would be move-in ready by fall.

The Borel fire was several miles away and burning away from our area when winds shifted and it swept through Havilah giving us less than an hour's notice to evacuate. We managed to evacuate all of our smaller dogs, swans, geese, sheep, and goats in time. Our larger dogs and their kennel buildings were in a clearing on the other side of the hill and escaped destruction. We credit the firefighters and water-dropping helicopters for keeping our big dogs safe.

Sadly, the front half of the ranch was burned to the ground, leaving only a few metal poultry pens intact. The farmhouse, historic cabin, small vineyard, other outbuildings, and our ranch truck were completely destroyed. We lost our storage and office building, losing thousands of dollars of ranch equipment, animal feed, and all infrastructure.

We are asking for any donations to help us rebuild so we can feed the animals, restore the ranch, and bring our animals out of their emergency housing and back home. Since our fire insurance was not yet in place, we have lost an enormous investment and are stretched beyond our limit.

Through all of this tragedy, we did manage to reunite almost a dozen local rescued dogs to their owners and have found a forever home for a newly born deaf puppy.

Please consider donating to help us feed our animals, rebuild our home and animal pens to continue our mission of rescuing unwanted livestock and give these amazing animals the country farm life they deserve!

Security cameras caught the destruction in real time.

Our poultry pens sustained a lot of damage.

Miraculous that our 4 main dog kennel buildings didn’t burn and the few dogs we couldn’t evacuate all lived with no injuries. Thank you God and Firefighters!
