Help Koichi Funayama and his family
Donation protected
Our friend Koichi Funayama is in hospital in critical condition with multiple organ failure brought on by fulminant myocarditis. Basically, it’s likely a viral condition which has caused his heart to stop. He is currently in a coma and fighting for his life.
He is married and has 3 kids and any support we can give him would be helpful to alleviate some of the stress on his wife during this time. I am told that hospital care in Japan is not covered and there will probably be a financial burden as well. Please donate to help our friend!
Gofundme has requested me to add the following information before releasing funds just to prevent fraud.
1 &2. My name is Philip Chang, a friend of Koichi and Kenji in vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I met both of them through friends in the film industry.
3. When I saw Kenji’s post on Facebook that Koichi was seriously ill, I suggested that it might be good to raise funds through gofundme or another crowdfunding site. Kenji has limited English and gofundme is not popular in Japan so he requested that I set up the account.
4. The funds are to be used to help offset any medical or incidental expenses for the family. Meals, parking, childcare (he has 3 kids), etc.. I was also told that Medicare is not free in Japan. If the worst comes to pass, which we all pray does not, then the money can be used to help financially with arrangements.
5. my intention was for his wife Megumi, to be able to transfer the funds to her Japanese bank, which I’m waiting to hear if it is possible. The alternative was to withdraw the money to my own account and wire it send it via PayPal
My preference is to have no access to the funds.
I hope that clarifies the situation for the gofundme team and we can proceed with getting the donations to where they are needed.
Sincerely,
Phil Chang
