Help Kongowea Boxing Club (Mombasa) Compete

Donation protected
People who know me know that I have been fundraising to support the Kongowea Boxing Club since I lived in Kenya from 2014-2016. Since moving to Sweden in 2018, my fundraising has mainly been through a donations based yoga class, called Karma Yoga, that I held at the school where I work. Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic has meant that I haven't been able to hold my classes and raise money for almost 2 years and money has run out.  Even though life is getting somewhat "back to normal", renovations to our school building mean that I can't start my fundraising yoga classes at school yet.   The Kenyan National League back up and running and Kongowea Boxing Club can finally start competing again, but we have run out of money to cover basic expenses such as travel, food and basic accommodation (when needed) at competitions.  Without being able to raise money through donations for Kongowea Boxing Club, the team won't be able to compete in local or national competitions as they will not have any way to fund it

The Kongowea Boxing Club is based in the Kongowea slum in Mombasa, Kenya. It is a cornerstone of the community, enabling boys, girls, men and women from the community to train every weekday, and often also on weekends. The positive effects on physical and mental health from sports such as boxing are well documented. For those who are part of the Kongowea Boxing Club family, the club is also a source of hope for a better life as many have found employment through connections with the club and its coaches. For those who are part of the Kongwea Team that competes in the Kenyan National League, it has even opened doors to try out for work with other organisations such as Kenya Prisons. Just before the impact of the Covid pandemic , two of Kongowea's boxers, Azaad Nazir and Anne Wanjiru, qualified for the provisional Kenyan National Team for the 2020 Olympic qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.  Anne Wanjiru's success with the Kenyan National Team continues and recently, in March 2022, she represented her country  in Kinshasa, DR Congo in the Africa Zone 3 championships, part of the preliminary rounds for the Commonwealth Games.

Sooooo.....the purpose of this GoFundMe is to provide a fundraising route through which friends and family from Sweden and the rest of the world can donate to the Kongowea Boxing Club fund. The money will continue to be used to enable to the boxers to compete in the Kenyan National League by covering the travel, accommodation, food and medical costs that are involved.

Money goes a long way in Kenya and no donation is too small.  Please spare SEK 50 / €5 / $5 or whatever you can to help!  We have a big target in the hope of being able to raise enough to cover the entire boxing year!

You can keep up to date with the Kongowea Boxing Club on Facebook. The page is managed by me and Coach William:
