Help Kris' Family Find a New Home After Sudden Eviction

I have a friend who needs help. I’ve known him for well over five years now and they continue to be a very optimistic person. He has gone through some hardships but has kept his head held high and his family has always moved on from hard situations. However, they need help this time. My friend, Kris, has been recently kicked out of a home his family has been renting for over ten years. The landlord suddenly decided to up their rent three times with little warning, and just kicked them out suddenly. They’re currently living in a Motel 6, but they only have a few days before they’ll be homeless.

Below is a statement Kris’ father wrote detailing their background and current situation:

“We are family of four. We have just been displaced from the rental house we have had for 10+ years. We were unwillingly evicted by our landlord when he raised the rent three times without warning. I use to work for the landlord in demolition, but suffered an on-site injury in 2022.

We are a disabled veteran family, with two sons diagnosed with Sickle Cell who live at home. My wife is a 100% disabled veteran who is homebound for the past two years and mostly confined to the bed. She is transitioning into palliative care. Prior to her becoming homebound, we lost our second son one month after his 25th birthday to Valley Fever combined with Sickle Cell. This happened in 2021. I requested time off to grieve for my lost son and take care of things, but was denied time off by the landlord.

After this we all went into a decline from which we have not recovered. Not sure if we ever will. My family is resilient and they don't complain about their daily pain or nausea. They smile everyday and make each of us laugh.

We had a new property lined up to move to. The new landlord decided to change the deal after we sent the first month’s rent, deposit, utilities, and application fee. After consulting with his lawyer, the new landlord instead wants three months of rent up front. He now no longer responds to my messages. I have filed a case against him, but there is no telling when that will ever process.

We are currently staying at a Motel 6. We need help and would appreciate it if you could donate.
