Kristoffer May - Road to Recovery!
As some of you may already have known, Kristoffer May had taken a very bad fall while hiking near a popular Machuu Pichu trail in Peru, on April 18th, 2019. Despite initial claims, it has been approximated, and backed by at least one eye-witness, that the fall was actually an extremely steep tumble from a height of about 20 meters, or roughly 70 feet. As reported by this witness, miraculously Kris was stopped only by a small tree, just before continuing off a narrow precipice to certain death. Unfortunately this tree, along with other terrain on the way down, caused significant injuries to Kris' body.
Months later, Kris still remains hospitalized at Kaiser in LA contending with serious injuries, mostly due to open wounds and the subsequent infections that have resulted. Slowly but surely the wounds are healing. His infections are subsiding, and it is generally assumed that he will be released from the hospital soon to begin the next step in his long recovery.
At this point, Kristoffer still does not have the use of his lower body and his legs. Fortunately he has shown signs of nerve reactions, meaning that with the proper care and rehabilitation, regaining the use of his legs is very much a possibility. I have setup this GoFundMe campaign specifically to address the proper rehabilitation that Kris will need if he hopes to walk again someday. I'm praying that people will find it in their hearts to donate whatever they can in order to give Kris his best chance at a full recovery.
The plan is to raise enough money to send Kristoffer to the world-renowned Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado, which specializes in neurological rehabilitation. Their spinal cord injury (SCI) treatment and rehabilitation focuses on aggressively working with patients physically and psychologically, so that patients can maximize their neurological recovery and general health. Their clinicians and physicians educate SCI patients about all aspects of their injury and care. They want patients to return home as independent and productive as possible, prepared to resume their lives. For more information on the wonderful work that Craig, visit

The excellent treatment that facilities such as the Craig Hospital provides, albeit most certainly worth every penny, naturally comes with a sizeable price-tag. While we are fighting the good fight for Kristoffer's primary care provider to pay for the opportunity to receive care from such a hospital, we believe that we can't - and won't - leave that decision in their hands alone. And what they do cover will not be nearly what Kris needs.
And his rehab and recovery will continue beyond Craig, all of this TBD at this point, but studies and research show nerves can take a long time to regenerate and reconnect. We believe Craig is the gateway to figuring all of this out with the best team of experts on his side.
It's important Kris is able to get back to the career he loves so much, in some capacity, and be fully independent to return to his life of adventure and travel.
His friends, family, along with his team of doctors at Kaiser believe that he is the ideal candidate for admittance at one of these superior rehabilitation centers.
This GoFundMe campaign has two major goals:
1. To raise enough money to allow Kristoffer to receive care at the Craig Hospital (or a rehabilitation center of similar acclaim) for as long as it takes to successfully return to the life he had before his accident.
2. To raise the money mentioned above in a relatively short time so as to make for a seamless transition from Kaiser's impending release of Kris from his current primary care, to the next crucial step in his recovery - SCI treatment and rehabilitation.
Every step of this long and difficult journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Everyone that has been supporting Kris during this period should welcome this next phase and celebrate how far he has come.
He will finally be able to make decisions for himself and begin to rebuild his life. While
this new chapter will be different than his life before April 18th, it can be just as rewarding, fulfilling and abundant.
The biggest milestones for Kris are the ones we take for granted everyday.
A blink of an eye to communicate, breathing without a machine, a sip of water, a bite of food, the ability to speak, going outside to fill his lungs with fresh air...And someday we all hope and pray it's one small step.
We will send weekly updates on Kris's progress.
