Help Kristy and Alayna Through Tough Times

Let me tell you about my friend Kristy and her daughter Alayna. Kristy is a crocheter, kick-ass biscuit and gravy maker, dog lover, middle school math teacher, and (most important of all) amazing single mama to Alayna. Alayna is a wonderful 12 year old who was born with many challenges, including congenital heart defects and scoliosis. Alayna was due to have a heart cath this month, but instead, she contracted RSV and pneumonia. Alayna and Kristy have been at the Dallas Children's Hospital since February 4, treating Alayna's pneumonia. Alayna has gotten much better!

The issue that they are facing right now is this: Kristy, as a (new-ish at her school) middle school math teacher in the state of Texas, is considered a contract employee. She gets 5 personal days total for the school year. Those 5 days are usually taken up by Alayna's doctor's appointments. When Kristy's personal days are all used up, she no longer gets paid. As of Monday the 10th, Kristy is no longer receiving a paycheck, all of her personal days are used up with Alayna's ongoing hospitalization. This wonderful family could really use your help, since Kristy isn't currently receiving pay. Kristy and Alayna will continue to face financial insecurity in the future, as Alayna still needs the heart cath that has been postponed for 6 weeks to allow Alayna to gain strength. The heart cath will require hospitalization, and Kristy will again go without pay since her personal days are gone for the year.
