Help La Bodega Gallery reopen in Barrio Logan

Donation protected

It is with great sadness to announce that we will be closing our doors at the end of December 2019. Our lease has come to an end and the rent was raised to an amount we can’t afford. The impact we’ve had, the contributions we’ve made to our community, the multiple, consecutive years being recognized as the best art gallery in San Diego matters not when we can no longer afford to work out of this space, a place that created value for all around us.

This is an ugly reminder of Barrio Logan’s current unaffordable reality for those wanting to have a space to present art and culture. It’s a sad reality that hurts. We put our life into making La Bodega what it is today and we are completely heartbroken that we have to vacate that historic building.

These past 6 years have been absolutely amazing and it has been a true honor to work with so many talented artists both locally and from around the world that shared their work with us over the years. We could not have done this without their beautiful contributions. And to the community that we live and work in we give endless thanks and gratitude for your support. We appreciate and love all that you have given to us. Although La Bodega, in its current manifestation, may be coming to an end we are not going to stop doing what we do.

**December 5, 2019 UPDATE :

We are humbled that thousands of people have contacted us over the last few days to express their love and support. We appreciate all of your heartfelt offers of help loud and clear and we stand with you in your frustration and disappointment in having La Bodega pushed out.

A lot of you are fighting to keep us in the building but at this point we have decided to leave no matter what happens. We can no longer give our money to a space that clearly does not support the art community. We are working hard to find another space in Barrio Logan. We will fight with everything we have to keep the art movement in our barrio alive and thriving.

We are gladly accepting donations to help with moving expenses and to save for a deposit, first month’s rent, architect fees, permit fees and so on. So much goes into opening a space that any financial contributions the community can provide will help us subsidize the cost of re-opening. If you can't donate please share the link.

We thank you for fighting on our behalf. Though this has been hard to deal with it might just be the universe pushing us into something greater for the Barrio Arts District. It’s going to be a lot of hard work to recreate what we have done but we won’t give up! Art shall win!

Our last exhibition will be Saturday December 14 /5-10pm.

**December 25, 2019 UPDATE :

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve found a new home for you and La Bodega Gallery!! and soon we will share the exact Barrio Logan location. We thank you for all of the messages of support and donations that we have received since we announced our forced departure. It warms our heart to know that our contributions to the barrio arts scene are loved by countless people from our community and beyond.

We are super excited to continue to support the art community by providing a grassroots venue for artists of all stripes. Due to the enormity of moving and preparing the new site it is going to take some time to get the location ready and open. In the meantime we will be collaborating with different venues in San Diego to organize pop-up art shows as our new home is being renovated.

In our new space we look forward to adding more community events, including art classes for children and adults, poetry readings, open mic nights and so much more! But this endeavor will take a lot of financial help. Therefore we are still humbly accepting donations, through our GoFundMe account, to help us re-open. Any financial assistance our community can provide is greatly appreciated. We thank you and can’t wait to see everybody at the new La Bodega location. Happy holidays everyone!!!
