Lahaina, Maui Fire - Assistance for La Phena & Fam

Hi, my name is Catherine and LaPhena Davis has been my best friend for most of our lives and is like a sister to me. She spent her childhood in California, where I met her, then she moved to Maui during her high school years, where she spent most of her life, had children, and even grandchildren. She, like many others, was caught by surprise when a fire swept through Lahaina, Maui, and destroyed the entire town, including the home she lived in with one of her daughters, daughter's boyfriend, their three small children, and extended family, along with pretty much all of their belongings. (They were able to save pets!). She is lucky to be alive as, sadly, not everyone did. She is grateful she at least had her car and enough gas in it to be able to drive to a cousin's home on the other side of the island, where she is now. Materially, she only has a few clothes and her car - that's all that she has left. She did not own the home she lived in, and she did not have renter's insurance, so she won't be getting any sort of insurance payment or help there. She had been renting in a home with many extended family, including an adult daughter and three small grandkids who she helped out with. She has another daughter, recently turned 18, who was living with a friend further down in Lahaina, whose place was also destroyed and who has nothing left (not even a car). Phena works in the hospitality industry, so who knows how this disaster will affect the tourism industry there, and how that will affect her job and income. Truly, she just has a few clothes, her car and whatever was left in her bank account from her last paycheck. She is going to need some help to buy clothes and more to get herself on her feet again somehow. I wanted to create this gofund me for her as a way to try to help her beyond my own limitations, hoping that anyone who would like to help could do so here and help this very hardworking, strong, loving, and amazing woman! Even a few dollars would be great as she's a clever girl who can stretch a buck! All donations will go directly to Phena (gofundme sends her an email with a link for her to directly withdraw funds as needed), and I know she would use them for clothing, buying necessities (gasoline, water, toiletries, food), and hopefully eventually setting up in a new rental with bedding, furniture and all the things we need on a daily basis and which she lost this week.
