Help Larry Brumfield

Hi, my name is Walt Michael, and I am fundraising for my friend of 29 years, Larry Brumfield, age 75. I met Larry due to our shared work in creating understanding and interracial harmony through the arts. Larry served as President of the Board of Common Ground on the Hill before leaving Maryland, moving to Texas to single-handedly raise his two grandsons. A retired chemical engineer, Larry has relied upon his pension and social security to help provide a home for the boys and has worked tirelessly as a substitute teacher to help make ends meet. Larry recently underwent lower spine and neck surgery and has now entered a rehab hospital, requiring 24/7 care while enduring immobility and great pain. For the most part, Larry's medical needs are being met through Medicare, and we are hopeful that his recovery is somewhere on the horizon. Still, he greatly needs support for his grandsons, including food, medicine, transportation and many other expenses that parents encounter when raising children. Larry has mentored countless youths. Now he is isolated in his struggle to provide for his grandsons until he can recover and return to substitute teaching. His grandsons are 13 and 19 years old and doing very well in middle school and community college while living alone, waiting for Larry's return. Please help us help Larry get across the finish line.
