Help Laura Huth-Rhoades Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Holy Wow! She's done! After 338 days, Laura finally completed her full cancer regimen last Friday, May 26 marking her last day of 20 days of radiation! To top it off she was also discharged from care at the Wound Center for what was once a 14cm long shallow but concerning tunnel wound – an ongoing complication from the ostomy surgery they’ve been trying to heal since last December.

It was June 22 of last year when she was diagnosed with the most aggressive, hardest to treat, and most likely to recur breast cancer, Triple Negative (TNBC). TNBC is a beast and it rules your life – there are very limited treatment options. Her treatment plan would not allow her to escape any part of the cancer journey: chemo, surgery, and radiation were all required.

Laura entered her battle with a severe case of Medical PTSD. Having been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at the tender, pre-pubescent age of 12, she’s long held a near-mortal terror of medical settings. Her diagnosis threw her straight into her war zone with no armor, no training, and barely any support. Even those of us closest to her struggled to help her navigate the tremendous fear that began to rock her life.

Last August, the chemo she was on caused a near-fatal case of Neutropenic Fever, then set off a near-deadly and horribly painful set of abdominal abscesses. She was in and out of ERs, ICUs, and hospitals for months, and bedridden with paralyzing pain for more months. This past March – nine months after diagnosis – she was finally healthy enough to get a lumpectomy. During this time she’s been unable to work. To top it off, her husband, Tom, actually got fired last August when his workplace learned of Laura’s cancer. Due to her extensive care needs, he hasn’t yet been back to work.

With radiation now behind them, Tom and Laura are now on the road to reclaiming the 338 days that cancer tried to steal from them, including getting back to work-work, and they promise to – as their finances grow back – dig back into their famous remodel projects and show us some stunning before-and-after reCREATE projects.

A HUGE thanks to everyone here who supported this GoFundMe initiative. Laura and Tom would not have been able to make it through their epic battle without all of you! They are immensely grateful for everyone’s love and support.

They are now accepting prayers and good thoughts for Tom to soon find a good job that treats him with respect (he has a strong lead!), and for Laura’s client base to return, putting her on a solid path for doing good again!

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE!
