Help Laura On Her Fight With Cancer
Donation protected
Diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on April 20, 2022.
I am writing this on behalf of my fantastic daughter Laura Pomerleau.
Two months ago, Laura was in surgery to remove a swollen lymph node in her neck, and the surgeon saw a tumour on her facial nerve. The surgeon did his best to remove as much of the tumour as possible during this surgery. Unfortunately, the pathology tests on the tumour revealed it was cancer, Stage 4A Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma, and not all of it was removed. To live, Laura must undergo radiation treatment, surgery, or both. Laura is choosing to undergo radiation first, which will be harmful to her body and may cause other cancers later in life. Even after this, Laura may have to pursue the surgical route leaving her with facial paralysis that will disfigure her for life.
We learned of this horrible news at a time when we should have been celebrating Laura’s completion of her master’s degree in forensic psychology, with a perfect GPA! She had just completed 6 long years of studying and was ready to start her life with a promising career. Instead, she begins with nothing and must fight for her life. Being a student for so long, she does not qualify for unemployment insurance, nor does she qualify for provincial or federal disability assistance because she is undergoing treatment.
Laura’s been through so much, and I will try anything to get her where she needs to be!! We don’t know yet what the total costs will be, but there will be months of travelling to the Cancer Institute, after-care, and expenses that are not covered by any insurance or government assistance. So along with emotional support, she will need some help financially to get through this and get back on her feet.
Please donate whatever you can. All funds will go directly to Laura.
