Help Laura Paxton with Funeral Costs

Hello, my name is Laura Paxton. I lost my husband on the 14th day of May 2024. I have applied for some assistance through the Department of Human Service in hopes that they would help me with $1,500 in funeral costs because he was on Medicaid. I was told through some friends of mine that I would be able to use DHS as a resource to help me pay for my husband's cremation, but unfortunately, I was denied the money because I own my home. This is a home that my husband and I have worked our whole lives for and raised our family in, and now our grandchildren come and call it home.

I do not have any more money that I can put out. I was originally supposed to only have to pay $600 towards the arrangements for everything because the Department of Human Services was going to pay $1,500. But because I was denied, I am now having to pay a total of $3,776, which I do not have. So, I am asking the community for help, anything helps. My poor husband has been lying in a morgue for almost 3 weeks now, but I just want to get him cremated and home where he belongs.
