She quickly acted to get her two children and their cat out of the house—leaving with only the clothes on their backs.

As they watched helplessly from across the street, the fire raged on for hours, destroying everything in its path. Her car, which had been parked in the garage, was also destroyed. Just when Laura thought the worst was behind her, the fire reignited in the early morning hours of December 23rd, this time in the roof above her 10-year-old daughter’s bedroom. Thankfully, they were staying at Laura's mom's apartment that night, and they were spared from further harm.
