URGENT: Help Laura Stopka and Family

Many of you know Laura. A loving wife, devoted mother to three little ones, and a skilled and caring nurse for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at WVU. Right now she’s fighting for her life and could use your help.
Laura was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and had a tumor removed in June 2019. She subsequently had six rounds of chemo and 30 radiation treatments. The cancer metastasized to her right lung in November 2020 and she had two more rounds of chemo before surgery to remove part of her right lung. Laura finished two more rounds of chemo on April 22, 2021, and shortly thereafter on April 27, she was taken to the Emergency Room at Washington Hospital in Washington, PA. She was Life Flighted to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA on April 29 where she was placed on a ventilator and kidney dialysis machine and listed in critical condition with sepsis/septic shock.
Laura was transferred to the West Penn Hospital ICU Burn Unit in Pittsburgh, PA on May 7 so she could receive more specific/specialized care for her hands, feet, and skin issues. She had surgery on her right leg and left foot on May 13. Another surgery on May 18 to apply artificial skin to the front of her right leg. On May 21, she had surgery to apply artificial skin to the back of her right leg and during the surgery, they amputated her left foot. On May 26, doctors amputated her fingers and thumb from her right hand. She has been taken off the ventilator and the dialysis machine, but she still has more surgeries to go through to address her right leg and left hand. The medical team is doing everything they can to save her right leg. Laura will lose a portion of the fingers and thumb on her left hand, to what extent we won’t know until she goes into surgery. She is improving, but we are asking everyone for help with her medical, rehab expenses, and home care.
We did get some good news while all of this was going on. Her cancer is in remission.
