Help Laura Winter Fight Breast Cancer

Donation protected
If there is one person who immediately rises to the very top of the list of those you can count on in a time of need, it is Laura Winter. The fact that you are reading this right now means that I successfully talked Laura into something that makes her extremely uncomfortable - accepting help. She recently heard the three words that no one ever wants to hear: you have cancer. Laura has been diagnosed with breast cancer -- Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. This cancer requires a very aggressive treatment regimen that will keep her from a job she adores -- inspiring elementary school-aged children to explore and express themselves through art.

I'd bet Laura has touched your life and the lives of your children with her love and warmth more than just once or twice. Laura’s commitment to Mary Silveira over the years has been incredible. She spent countless hours volunteering as Silveira’s garden lead, taught ceramics to all students, and worked in the special education classroom, which ultimately led her to her dream position as Silveira’s beloved Art Specialist. Through the pandemic, Laura worked tirelessly to teach art through videos to keep art accessible and available to students across three elementary schools. Even today, you're sure to encounter the colorful rocks painted by her students and placed around the neighborhood for everyone to enjoy.

To know her is to love her. This fiercely independent woman came to the United States from Ireland when she was 23 years old. She is used to doing everything on her own and is not a person who asks for help...ever. Due to the aggressive nature of the treatment she requires, Laura will be unable to work. Once treatment begins in early February, she will experience a range of negative side effects both physically and mentally. She has a long, hard road ahead.

It is our turn now to help support Laura and her children, Julia (21, third-year university student) and Kai (16, high school sophomore). Funds raised will help Laura cover medical expenses and help keep her household running while undergoing treatment. Please give whatever you can to help Laura on this unexpected journey. No donation is too small, and every contribution will make a huge difference. Your kindness and support will provide the financial relief and encouragement she needs for the fight ahead. Let’s show Laura how much our community cares.

True to her nature, Laura is feeling positive and strong. She knows she will fight and beat this, and so do I.

Thank you very much for your kindness and support.
