Help Lauren White Fight Cancer!

In July 2022, Lauren underwent major abdominal surgery to repair double hernias and to reattach her abdominal wall. During this process, an enlarged lymph node was noticed. About 3 weeks later, Lauren underwent a chest CT. This revealed a mediastinal (chest) mass that measured 6.1 x 4.3 cm with swelling into the chest wall. Lauren then had a follow-up surgery for a biopsy/lymph node removal. On 9/2/22, Lauren’s cancer journey officially began when her pathology report confirmed Stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Lauren’s family is no stranger to cancer, unfortunately. Her younger sister, Courtney, was diagnosed with a brain tumor 12 years ago and continues her battle today. I have seen Lauren’s family rally together in support and make multiple trips (every 8 to 12 weeks) yearly to Duke University to closely monitor Courtney’s tumor. About 2 years ago, Courtney’s husband, Travis, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is currently in remission. Last October, Lauren’s father, was also diagnosed with cancer and is still receiving treatment. The faith in Christ this family exudes is simply exemplary. Lauren’s family asks that you please continue to pray with them as the power of prayer can work miracles as evident by their family. Lauren, her husband, Kevin, and their twins, Hunter and Peyton need them more than ever.
Lauren and Kevin are facing challenges on multiple fronts from her diagnosis, inability to work throughout treatment, and the unexpected layoff of Kevin from his great job due to an economic downturn. He actually received the news the same day as she received her diagnosis. I can’t even imagine the stress that they have endured already, emotionally and financially.
Lauren and Kevin have already incurred large medical bills from the three surgeries she has had since July and multitude of tests to date leading up to diagnosis. Treatments going forward will be twice monthly chemo treatment (4 chemo drugs per infusion) for 4 to 6 months of treatments with multiple PET scans and CT's, and bloodwork to monitor progress in between treatments. Lauren’s chemo treatments will cost close to $100,000 out of pocket! At the end of chemo, she will be evaluated as to whether radiation will be needed.
I am praying and hoping that the community can now rally around them and show them our love and support and offer financial assistance as well. Lauren is one of the most caring, loving, and strongest individuals that I’ve ever met. I have had the pleasure of working with Lauren at NHC Healthcare in Mauldin as a fellow physical therapist assistant. I saw her passion for her patients firsthand. It was there that I also learned of her grit and toughness as a multiple Ironman finisher. Through her inspiration and coaching, she led me to complete my 1st Ironman race. Lauren truly inspires others to do their best through her examples and her love for Christ. Let’s give back to Lauren as she now faces the hardest race of her life. God Bless.
