Help Law Student Assist Migrants at U.S.-Mexico Border
Donation protected
I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected by the IRAP Chapter at Rutgers Law School to visit the U.S.-Mexico border from January 6th to 10th.
In partnership with Las Americas, a legal aid organization assisting migrants in Ciudad Juárez and immigrant communities throughout the El Paso, TX region, this trip will allow me to have an immersive experience at one of the busiest U.S. land ports-of-entry.
During the trip, I will engage in a variety of activities, including learning about the challenges of seeking protection at the border, staffing Las Americas' weekly clinics to provide legal assistance with immigration applications, conducting intakes with individuals in shelters or detention centers, walking the bridge between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez where many migrants seek asylum, meeting with local partner organizations, interacting with IRAP’s local staff, and receiving training in immigration law and lawyering skills.
This experience will offer me valuable insights into the complexities faced by migrant communities, deepen my understanding of immigration policies, and enhance my legal skills.
