Help Lay My Brother Salvador "Chavita" to Rest

I never imagined I would have to write something like this, and the last few days have been a nightmare I keep wishing I could wake up from. On the morning of Sunday, March 16, 2025, I received the devastating news that my youngest brother, Salvador, whom we lovingly called "Chavita or Chava," had been shot multiple times. Despite all efforts to save him, he tragically succumbed to his wounds in Reno, Nevada.

As his next of kin, I took the earliest available flight from New York to Nevada to handle the unimaginable. This situation has been overwhelming and heartbreaking in every way. Our family is originally from Long Beach, California, and now, on top of grieving this tragic loss, I am facing the difficult challenge of relocating his remains and making funeral arrangements. The weight of it all is truly unbearable.

For those who may not know our story, my three brothers and I lost our mother, Irma, in 2001. She was only 36 years old, leaving behind four young children: Fernando (18), Juan Alejandro (15), myself, Ayydé (13), and Salvador, the youngest, at just 12 years old. That year will always mark the most painful moment of our lives. On October 1, 2001, when we lost our mother, a piece of all of us died with her. We weren’t just grieving her loss—we were also separated from each other. Salvador, being the baby of the family, took it the hardest. His world was shattered, not only because he lost his mother but because he lost the only sense of security he had left: his siblings.

The pain of losing our mother and being apart from each other robbed us of our adolescence. For Salvador, it made life incredibly difficult. Despite his struggles, he always carried love, light and humor in his heart. I know how much he longed to be near our mother again, and I want to honor that wish by laying him to rest as close as possible to her.

I need financial support to bring Salvador home to Long Beach and lay him to rest next to our mother, where he always wanted to be. The burial plot alone in that garden costs over $13,000—and that’s not including anything else such as funeral and relocation expenses. Like many families, we were not financially prepared for this tragedy, and my sole focus right now is bringing my brother home, giving him the proper services, and ensuring he is laid to rest with love and dignity.

I am humbly asking for help to cover the relocation of his remains, funeral and burial services, and any additional unforeseen costs that may arise. Any amount, big or small, will make a difference in making this possible.

Como su pariente más cercano, tomé el primer vuelo disponible de Nueva York a Reno para hacerme cargo de lo inimaginable. Esta situación ha sido abrumadora y desgarradora en todos los sentidos. Nuestra familia es originaria de Long Beach, California, y ahora, además de enfrentar esta pérdida tan dolorosa, tengo la difícil tarea de trasladar sus restos y hacer los arreglos funerarios. Su mundo se desmoronó, no solo por la ausencia de nuestra madre, sino porque perdió el único sentido de seguridad que tenía: sus hermanos.

El dolor de perder a nuestra madre y estar separados nos robó la adolescencia. Para Salvador, esto hizo que la vida fuera increíblemente difícil. A pesar de sus luchas, siempre llevaba amor y luz en su corazón. Sé cuánto anhelaba estar cerca de nuestra madre nuevamente, y quiero honrar ese deseo dándole descanso lo más cerca posible de ella.

Necesito apoyo financiero para traer a Salvador de regreso a Long Beach y enterrarlo junto a nuestra madre, donde siempre quiso estar. Solo el terreno en ese jardín cuesta más de $13,000, sin incluir los gastos del funeral y la reubicación. Como muchas familias, no estábamos preparados económicamente para una tragedia como esta, y mi única prioridad en este momento es traer a mi hermano a casa, brindarle un servicio digno, con amor y asegurarme de que descanse en paz.
