It is with an extremely heavy heart to say that I received the call that all fur baby parents fear.
Summit Veterinary Referral Center called me this morning to say that while the vet techs took Layla out for a walk this morning, she seemed to being doing well. That she was even doing her trot walk that she does so she was apparently feeling better. She then collapsed and her heart stopped. The vet techs rushed her back into the clinic, incubated and performed CPR for 10 minutes without success of reviving her. The staff believe that it might have been a blood clot caused by secondary and third effects of the injuries she sustained from the multiple dog attack in her own yard.

I am still in shock, still processing and trying figure out how to move on from this horrific incident and the loss of my sweet innocent girl.

Layla was just not a dog, she was a sweet timid soul who had a rough first two months of life. Thank you Angela Thomas for rescuing her from the middle of the street in Doha, Qatar, raising her and then working to assist me in getting her back to the states to be part of my family. I am so sorry we lost our girl.

I wish to thank Aimie Siirila and Merry Sherwood as well as others in my neighborhood who I have not been able to meet in person and thank for intervening and saving my girl from these other dogs and getting her to immediate medical attention. Aimie and Merry, you have been a rock for me during this difficult time and assisted when I needed a hand. Thank you.

I wish to thank Hawk's Prairie Veterinary Hospital who have taken great care of my previous fur babies and saw Layla for her initial exam when I returned home. Your team is always so compassionate when caring for our kids.

I wish to thank the team at Yelm Veterinary Hospital who first assessed Layla and called every Veterinary Emergency Hospital for an opening when she was brought in after the attack. Thank you for doing the research I wasn't in the mind to do.

I wish to thank Summit Veterinary Referral Center who have taken great care of my previous fur babies whether it be emergency or surgery. I know Layla's circumstances and demeanor tugged at everyone's heart strings. Thank you for being so compassionate when it comes to our babies and holding it together for us when we are falling apart. I know your staff had done anything and everything possible to save Layla.

Finally I wish to thank everyone who has read mine and Layla's story and donated to assist with the medical bills coming in and the future therapy Layla would have needed whether it was physical and/or emotional. Thank you. I appreciate everyone's outpouring love for my little girl.

Layla, you have no idea how many hearts you stole and how many you have mended. Everyone person you've passed, you made their lives that much better.

You had helped countless service men and women and civilian members of the Operation Joint Task Force-Central feel less lonely being far from home.

You had touched so many people in my Aunt's apartment complex putting a smile on everyone's face you passed with your sweet nature.

You stole everyone's hearts at Hawk's Prairie and Summit Vet. Everyone is devastated and heartbroken for losing you despite all possible efforts.

To me, Layla, you came at a time after I returned from the states heartbroken. I had to say goodbye to my last fur baby and your puppy kisses and baby shark teeth help me laugh and heal. I had big plans for our lives together, your sweet soul, playfulness and silly personality was going to help me with my ongoing PTSD and transitioning back into civilization. With you under my wing, I was going to help you to continue having new adventures in the woods, on the beaches, in the parks. And of course Pup Cups.

I am beyond grateful for the time I was allowed to have you in my life and I know you are playing chase with our boys; Buster, Ki'a'i and Halulu in heaven. We love you Layla and you will be forever in our hearts.

Sweet girl Layla was brutally attacked in her own brand new backyard by 3 large Huskies. Layla has a long journey ahead of her, and the cost is increasing every day that she is under emergency veterinary care. She has sustained over 10 bite wounds, which have caused her kidneys to not work the way they should. She is also being treated for aspiration pneumonia.

Layla was rescued from overseas (Qatar) and flown home to live the rest of her long life with her new owner. Layla was just getting settled in her new country, new home, and new backyard. The owner had been working on getting her more comfortable around other dogs and people as Layla hasn’t had the easiest of lives. Layla went into her backyard on her own despite the 4 Huskies aggressively barking at the fence all day and night (this is the norm in this neighborhood, and they have been reported, and an investigation has been started). The 4 Huskies took it a step further and broke down the fence separating the two yards and brutally attacked her until she was lifeless when they continued to gnaw at her throat and legs. Layla fought for her life and is still fighting! The cops identified the dog as deceased and told neighbors that the body would be collected by animal services. Luckily, another neighbor and I noticed she was breathing and took immediate action as the police said it was out of their control. We wrapped her lifeless but breathing body in a blanket and took her to the closest vet. On the ride there, she started to perk up, noticing that she was in a safe spot and no longer in danger of being attacked by the pack. Layla was immediately taken under the care of the vet and was transported to an emergency vet last night.

As you can imagine, this is a huge, unpredicted expense and going to make a huge impact on Layla and her owner's lives. We are looking to help cover vet bills for both vets and any continued care needed for Layla to live her best life, as that was always the plan. Any additional funds would go to reintroducing and extensive training to get Layla back to her loving, sweet self so she can live a meaningful, confident life.

We will keep you updated with all updates and thank you for any help.

I have attached the first statement from Yelm Veterinary.
