Help Layne with Medical and Home Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Angie Arceneaux. Many of you have been following my son Layne Arceneaux’s journey since his car accident on 09/19/2021. He was in a life changing single car accident in the early morning hours of September 19, along with his dog (Jack). Layne shattered the T11 vertebrae in his back. When I arrived at the hospital, the doctor broke the news to me that Layne had shattered his back and was paralyzed from the waist down…I was devastated as a parent. After five minutes, I was okay. I realized that God had spared my son and that he was still here with us. I truly felt a peace come over me that cannot be explained. Layne was immediately admitted to ICU.

The following day, he had to have emergency surgery which required the neurosurgeon to do a spinal fusion from T10 to T12. They inserted titanium rods and pins in his back. They did a spinal reduction (realignment) for the remaining vertebrae.

Several days later, he had to have a facial surgery because the impact from the airbag broke his nose. The doctor told us that if it was not taken care of now, that it would likely give him issues in the future.

Layne also has a fairly significant burn on his right arm from the airbag. The doctors initially thought that his right arm had a fracture in it. Two CT scans later, he was cleared of the fracture and they took the splint off of his arm.

Layne spent nine days at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge while recovering from his injuries. Once he was released from OLOL, he was transferred to NeuroMedical for in-patient rehabilitation where we spent the next 16 days. While at NM Layne was recovering well physically, but the neurosurgeon felt like he would benefit more from rehabilitation services at TIRR - Hermann in Houston.

On Thursday, October 14, I received a phone call that he needed to be transported to Houston immediately because they had a bed available for him. I jumped on the opportunity. I didn’t even have the opportunity to tell family members goodbye! We left for Houston in less than two hours.

We are currently at TIRR - Hermann. One of the leading rehabilitation facilities in the United States. They deal only with spinal cord injuries. We have world renowned doctors here and it was definitely worth the trip. This will be the first of many trips to Houston. Layne will also continue to follow up with some of his doctors in Baton Rouge, but for the most part our doctors will be here in Houston.

I had spoken with Layne earlier about a Gofundme account and he did not want to set one up at that time because he has always been taught that when you want something, you work for it. I told him, things are a little different now. This is a hand up, not a hand out. If you feel led to give, we would greatly appreciate it. If you don’t have it to give, we totally understand…Please remember to keep Layne in your prayers.

All of the proceeds will be used towards medical bills, making his home handicap accessible, making his car handicap accessible, durable medical equipment (wheelchair) and upgrades not covered by insurance. Layne also has his own home that he bought at age 19, so he has those expenses as well. The doctor told Layne he will likely be out of work for at least a year. I have also been out of work a substantial amount so I can be with him, so I don’t have the extra to contribute right now. With that being said, ALL proceeds are for Layne! I do not want him to travel this road alone, so I would gladly do it all over again.

Please keep my dearest Layne in your thoughts and prayers as he travels this long road. We know that we are not alone because we have so many that have been there for us through this journey. We also know that God will never leave us or forsake us. He will always carry us through the most difficult days.

Thank you my dear friends!

I have had some friends ask about making donations directly to Layne.  If you are interested, please consider mailing donations to my office.
