My heart is broken for my daughter Leah and son-in-law Jimmy
Some of you may know that Leah and Jimmy Maieski have been trying to have a baby for two and a half years. When they were first told that they would need to meet with a fertility doctor they thought it would be a fairly quick road to having a baby since they were getting medical assistance.
In 2019 they had 4 IUI’s (Intrauterine insemination) their second IUI was successful but ended in a miscarriage at 6 and a half weeks. Shortly after learning about the miscarriage, Leah’s dad, Stan passed away pretty unexpectedly. This was devastating for her, not only grieving the miscarriage but also her father and best friend. A few months later, Jimmy’s dad Jim passed away unexpectedly. They were both in pain but decided to have two more IUI’s in the hopes of becoming pregnant and fulfilling their dreams of being parents. After the four unsuccessful IUI’s they met with their doctor and moved on to IVF. This is a lot more invasive, extensive and expensive but they could not quit.
In February 2020, Leah started her IVF protocol which was intense. Daily hormone injections, ultrasounds, doctors’ appointments, bloodwork, etc. They had their egg retrieval in March and were able to retrieve 13 eggs. After the eggs are retrieved, they are monitored and put with the sperm. They got the report the next day that 12 out of 13 eggs fertilized. They were cautiously optimistic. They would have to wait for the 5-day report to find out how many became blastocysts. They went into the Fertility clinic for their fresh transfer and found out that 7 out of 12 made it to day 5. Those were pretty good numbers. They transferred one embryo and froze the rest. The two week wait between the transfer and the pregnancy blood test is brutal. They took the HCG blood test and found out they were pregnant. But then the bleeding started. Leah knew it was another miscarriage. Two days later she went back in for another HCG test (if it is a healthy pregnancy the number should at least double). It had dropped from a 273 down to a 28 which confirmed it was a chemical pregnancy.
Devastated again, they changed doctors and continued to hold onto some hope. They went on to have Frozen Embryo transfers and they failed. Now they are out of embryos and are basically back at square one. Leah and Jimmy have spent around $35,000 up to this point. Their health insurance does not cover any infertility treatments. They are hoping to go through another round of IVF but cannot right now due to financial reasons. We all know how deserving they are and what wonderful parents they will be. Please donate if you can, they will be so appreciative.
They are not the ones asking for help but being Leah's mom my heart is broken for them. They are wonderful people and would be amazing parents. They have so much love for each other and are ready to share their hearts and home and life with a baby. Please find it in your heart to donate today. Any amount is so appreciated.
Thank you
With Love
