Help Leah with Medical Bills

Donation protected

In April, my partner and I both lost our jobs to covid. Starting in July, I became more sick than I’d ever been in my life. It only took a couple of weeks for me to be unable to get out of bed and move around on my own. I lost 20 pounds in a month.

I couldn’t keep myself hydrated, and my body stopped absorbing nutrients from any food I ate. I couldn’t stand for more than a few seconds without fainting.

Two months, 4 ER visits, countless labs and tests, and a lot of pain later, and I finally landed in Hoag Hospital with a 102.7 degree fever, in the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I’d had an 8.7cm ovarian cyst burst, I was severely septic, and I was told that I was “borderline”, and could go into multi-organ failure.  I was finally diagnosed with a severe case of clostridium dificile, which is what had been making me so sick since July. I spent the next three days in the sub-ICU at Hoag, treating the sepsis and being stabilized. Then I spent four days in the general hospital, treating the C Diff.

It’s now been a couple of weeks since I left the hospital - and I’m slowly but surely recovering. I can do chores again, walk around again, though I consistently struggle with fatigue. The chronic headaches and nausea are going away, and some of the pain from the cyst is starting to go away.

My partner and I are now left with a new problem, medical bills. As I’m writing this, I’m surrounded by a pile of bills on my bed that I’m trying to get through. As of this moment, (before I have received any bills from the week-long hospital stay) it’s adding up to $6,802.15.

I still have c diff, I’m still on antibiotics called vancomycin, the only antibiotic that works against a bacteria as strong as c diff. It’s been an ongoing battle to get my insurance to continue paying for it. Without insurance, it’s about $1,000 for a 1-2 week supply of it.

My partner is in her internship, months from graduating with her masters, and I’ve been unable to work for months due in part to covid, and in part to me being bedridden.

To make a long story short, 2020 has been a hell of a year, and I could really use some help with these medical bills. Thank you for anything at all you’re able to contribute. ♥️ have a lovely day and stay healthy!
