Help LED Brighter Communities  Convert the Habitat for Humanity Restore to LED!

LED Brighter Communities is looking to convert 100% of the lighting at the Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity ReStore to LED. A full conversion to LED will save the ReStore approximately $800 a year. This money will then be able to support Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity's mission to build homes, communities, and hope. Why LED?

LED lighting is a win-win-win. LED lighting has many perks, several of which are listed below:

-LED saves money through more efficient lighting, producing more light, less heat, and with less energy.
-LED saves energy and uses less harmful materials than other lighting sources, making it better for the environment.
-LED lasts significantly longer than traditional lighting, saving money for bulb replacements, time, and labor required to replace lights on the ReStore’s 25-foot ceilings. 

LED will bring higher quality lighting at a cheaper price to the ReStore, allowing money and energy to be saved, further helping the community transition into an energy-efficient paradise and supporting the incredible mission of the Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity.

Project Expense Breakdown

The project will likely come to a total cost of $3,500 after the conversion is 100% complete and a rebate from MidAmerican Energy is taken into account. Any excess funds after the completion of the project will go to convert or install LED lights at other Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity locations. 


The future outlook of the project includes a 24% return on investment. This means that in 20 years when the bulbs need to be replaced, the ReStore will have saved $15,000. Replacing the bulbs will also be significantly cheaper than the initial conversion, helping the initial investment roll even farther into the future and gaining the ReStore even more savings.

We are two juniors from Cedar Falls who are looking to make a positive and lasting impact on our community. One of the best ways to do this is to help people and organizations save money. LED Brighter Communities has a mission to help communities reduce electricity consumption and costs. With conversions to LED, we can help people and organizations save money for years to come. Converting the ReStore to LED will not only be an investment in the store but an investment in the community. The Iowa Heartland ReStore is a fundraising arm for Iowa Heartland Habitat. By lowering the overhead costs at the ReStore, more of the proceeds are able to support building and repairing the places that our community members call home.




What Your Donation Will Do

A donation to LED Brighter Communities’ ReStore project will allow for the purchase of materials, equipment, and labor required to make the conversion. 100% of donations to this project will support the conversion. Any size donation helps.
