Help Left Voice to cover the miners' strike in AL

Donation protected

UPDATE: As we were heading back to NYC from Alabama, miners from the United Mine Workers of America announced a strike at Warrior Met mine for Thursday night. The mine is located in Brookwood, Alabama, just 45 minutes outside of Birmingham. "More than 1,100 workers at all of the company’s operations, including the No. 4 mine, the No. 5 preparation plant, the No. 7 mine and its central shop" will be walking off the job if the bosses do not meet their demands for a new and fair contract.

We need your help to cover the expenses necessary to be able to stay in Alabama to cover this possible strike. We really appreciate all the support and donations you gave to make it possible for us to be here during the Amazon union drive. During our time here we have been able to speak to workers about the unionization effort and what it’s like to work for Amazon, but we have also been able to interview activists who are fighting against police brutality, the construction of new prisons, attacks on trans rights, the increasing criminalization of protests, and much more.

We are an independent organization and our income comes mainly from our supporters. We have updated the goal of this campaign and we hope we can count on your support to keep providing an independant and socialist perspective from the ground and to cover what could be a significant fight by workers in Alabama against unfair labor practices.

As our followers may know, Amazon workers in Bessemer, Alabama are in a historic effort to unionize their workplace. We’ve covered this extensively on our site, highlighting the fight against a company owned by the richest man in the world. But we want to do more.

We’re working to send reporters to Bessemer to amplify the voices of these workers. Our on the ground reporting in the past has boosted the voices of workers in The Bronx at the Hunts Point Strike and healthcare workers demanding better protection when the COVID pandemic broke out.

Help us meet our goal to pay for the transportation and lodging costs so that we can cover the Amazon unionization effort. These workers have already faced desperate union-busting maneuvers from Amazon and with just a few short weeks left before their votes are counted, they’ll need as much support as possible.
