Help Lego Fight Back: Urgent Medical Funds Needed

Donation protected
I'm raising funds for my baby, Lego.

On Sunday, June 23rd, my baby Lego was attacked by a pit bull. The dog broke through their fence and attacked her on our property. The majority of her injuries are on her backside because she was trying to get away. My 10 year-old overweight sheltie mix didn't stand a chance.

The owner of the dog said, "My dog was taking care of business." He said Lego deserved to be attacked since she was barking. The owner proceeded to get in my face and call me several curse words as I was trying to get Lego to the emergency vet.

Once we arrived at the emergency vet, she was seen and immediately went into surgery; this is the first of 3 operations she would have. This surgery was 4 hours long because they had to remove necrotic tissue, place drains, and she had so many stitches I couldn't count. Her care at home was to keep the drains clean and not blocked, chlorohexidine solution soaked on gauze placed on her open wound for as long as she could tolerate it. Lastly, I would cover the wound completely with SSD cream and then bandage it. It has been a challenge to keep her bandages on due to the location of her injury.

For the rest of the week, we took care of Lego's injuries and had high hopes she was on the mend. Unfortunately, on Friday, June 28th, a large portion of her wound broke open. Since the skin around her stitches were becoming necrotic, the stitches just came undone. We rushed Lego back to the emergency vet where she had her second surgery, also for 4 hours. They removed the necrotic tissue, removed her drains, and gave her a sugar wrap bandage to stimulate skin growth. Once again, we were hopeful.

On Saturday we had an appointment to have her sugar bandage wrapped and changed but upon inspection under her bandages, more tissue had become necrotic. Then she had her third surgery 5 hours after her second surgery to clean the area and apply another tie on bandage. When I picked Lego up from the vet at noon on Sunday, June 30th, I was given instructions on how to change her bandages, and it was very overwhelming.

A tie on bandage is like lacing up a shoe. They placed stitches around her wound in loops. After I clean her up with chlorohexidine, I place an abdominal pad over the wound and use a shoe string to lace through those stitches. This is the only way to keep the bandage in place.

On July 3rd, Lego had a laser treatment that will stimulate tissue growth. She will have 2 treatments a week for 3 weeks, and the next session will be 3 treatments a week as long as she is tolerating the treatment. After 1 session, we can see a difference. Her swelling has gone down exponentially, and the "flaps" of her skin around her wound are healing.

Lego will have another surgery to remove what is left of her necrotic tissue and we are not out of the woods with her care. Infection is a major concern since she has a very large open wound.

We have spent $8,160.26 in the past week for all of her care. I had to apply for 2 pet care credit cards in addition to maxing out my other credit cards. Currently, we are unable to afford her next surgery and her continued laser treatments. As long as Lego is fighting, we will fight with her. Besides the massive wound on her hip and buttocks, she is being her normal happy self.

Losing her because we couldn't afford treatment would destroy us.
