HELP! Leith Recording Company
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alan Moffat.
Five months ago I was forced out of my recording studio on Leith Walk, Edinburgh because the owner planned to demolish the block we were in.
We had a great wee business, and a community development scheme which allowed talented people, who would otherwise not have the opportunity to record their music, to use the studio and get records out.
MUSIC FOR THE PEOPLE
Our ethos was all about keeping studio hire costs as low as possible so that people on modest incomes or benefits could still get their music out there.
Music making should never become the preserve of the wealthy or the privileged. I believe passionately that it is for everyone, irrespective of their class, background or financial status.
In our two years on Leith Walk were very proud to work with more than 60 local artists, bands and musicians of every genre from heavy rock to solo bagpipes (follow the links below to hear some of the amazing people we’ve worked with).
WE NEED A NEW HOME
A lot has happened since Drum Property Group refused to extend our lease and kicked us out.
The good news is that Drum’s demolition plan has been rejected by councillors - a great victory for the local community and Save Leith Walk campaign.
The bad news is that my business is still homeless.
Had we been given the chance to extend our lease on a month-to-month basis, as we requested from Drum, we would have been able to fund the entire build by ourselves.
Since October 3, 2018, the room that were trading from has lain empty and there is no prospect of us being allowed to return.
I’ve finally managed to find a new place to relaunch Leith Recording Company in Leith. I’ve put £5,000 of my own money into the refit but I need another £10,000 to complete the project. (See the Dropbox link below for studio plans and costings).
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not the kind of person to ask for help unless I really need it.
I’d really appreciate any donation you can make to help us get back up and running and get talented local people into the studio and recording.
Everyone who makes a donation will have their name go up on a ‘Wall of Fame’ in the studio’s live room. We’re also offering discounted rates for anyone pre-booking a recording session in the new studio.
With your support we can keep alive a grassroots recording studio which is desperately needed by this community.
By helping us you will be helping Scottish artists who might otherwise never get their music heard.
Please give what you can.
Thank you so much
