Help the Lemos Family Rebuild after Mountain Fire

My name is Samantha, and I am making this GoFundMe for my best friend who suffered an extraordinary loss yesterday, November 6th, 2024. An extremely aggressive fire rampaged through the outer hills of Camarillo, California, and it left them without their home and their pets.

Marlena Lemos is the full-time caregiver of her 72-year-old disabled father, Robin, as he is an amputee with multiple health issues leaving him nearly blind.

Marlena was not home when the fire started. Robin was in the middle of a nap, around 9AM, when a neighbor and friend, Dave, showed up at their door and told him that they had to go NOW. Robin had a hard time getting things together and grabbed what he could before rushing out—unfortunately, he was unable to get their two cats (Meko and Socks) into their car in the commotion, so he left the front door open for them in hopes they'd get out and survive.

They were ushered out of the evacuation area, and it took Marlena over an hour to reach her father when she realized what had happened. Robin went to a family member's house and hunkered down, hoping in the morning their house would still be there.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. It was a total loss, with everything reduced to cinder but the brick walls. And, as of now, one of their cats, Socks, was found with such extreme burns she had to be euthanized. Meko is still missing.

They have nowhere to go long-term; they are currently staying in a family member's living room while trying to figure out their next steps. This GoFundMe is to get them on their feet and help them find new housing while going through this hard time.
