Help Leo Pate fight Stage 3 Cancer

Update 4/19...
Leo went to UAB on 4.15 for emergency surgery.  They had to repair a tear in his colon and he will now have to use  colostomy bag for a awhile. He is still in ICU on a ventilator as they prepare to place a stint in his esophageal junction.  Due to the colon tear he is currently septic which has caused issues but he continues to fight and hopefully in the coming days will be able to be removed off the ventilator. 


Update 3/28....
3/21 - Started radiation 
3/28 -  Awaiting on pathology report to confirm if Leo has the same cancer now identified in his arm & hip or if that is different than his esophagus. They will be placing a chemo port tube in on 3/30.  Will provide additional update's once we know more. 

In February 2022, Leo Pate was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer at his Esophageal / Gastroesophageal junction. He was diagnosed after his esophagus closed up with no ability to swallow whole food. March 11, doctors inserted a feeding tube that must run 15 hours per day and limited him to no lifting over 10 pounds. The next step in the coming days is for Leo to have radiation daily while alternating weeks of chemotherapy to reduce the size of the tumor in preparation for surgery. True to form, he has been handling all of this with incredible strength despite the amount of pain.

 

Leo has been a part of the Romulus community in Tuscaloosa County for over 30 years. Owner & operator of Romulus Small Motors; he cannot work around doctor's visits and treatments.

 

This fund was set up to hopefully help relieve some of the financial burdens for Leo due to lost wages and medical bills. Ongoing updates will be provided on this page as they are received.
