Help Lewis Creek Farm Recover from Flood Damage

Donation protected
Lewis Creek Farms suffered a great deal of flood damage from Hurricane Beryl. Over 7 acres of growing crops were destroyed, farm roads were washed out, areas of crop land were scoured out as much as 3 feet deep, one tree 6ft in diameter came down. The real financial loss is the growing crops destroyed and of course it’s going to be expensive repairing all the physical damage.

I know there are people out there who value Lewis Creek Farm and our part in the vibrant local food community. And I know that they would like to help us recover from this disaster. I have posted this as a way for you to help us out.

I’m really not expecting to cover the total of real losses from the flooding, but anything you can do to help out will be very much appreciated.

I’m Hank Bissell the owner of Lewis Creek Farm and I have farmed the flood plains of Lewis Creek for over 40 years. I have seen floods come and go. Most often they come in the off season when there is no cash crop in the field. Every 5 years or so…yes flooding, but no crop damage. One year in 10 there is crop damage, but minor.
Last year we did not have flooding but rather one heck of a lot of rain. So much rain in fact that we might as well have had flooding in some fields…and the crop losses as well. Since we couldn’t afford loses that big a second year in a row, this year we made sure all our crops were on the best, highest, driest land. Despite our best efforts the flooding from Hurricane Beryl was beyond anything that anyone who has farmed this land for the last 80 years has seen.

We didn’t lose our home like some people did, we didn’t lose all our crops, but losses are substantial and on the heels of the very wet year in 2023, any help you can give will be much appreciated.

Thanks for helping out.
